Harney & Cowen impersonated on Twitter
Thursday, May 14th, 2009Villa81’s Emmet Ryan recently appeared on Phantom FM News to discuss fake Twitter accounts that had been set up in the names of leading Irish politicians.
Phantom’s Emer McLysaght has this report:
Mary Harney, Brian Cowen and Roy Keane have all had their identities stolen on Twitter.
Online impostors have set up accounts on the social blogging site pretending to be Irish politicians and celebs.
Various tweets allege that the Taoiseach has a much better physique in real life, and that the Health Minister ‘needs more pies’.
A spokesperson for Mary Harney has told The Sun that the Minister has no interest in the site.
Emmet Ryan from villa81.com told Phantom News that she’s probably right:
“….it’s very easy to jump out and say ‘oh you’re a disgrace for not interacting with technology, or not interacting with this new wave of communication’. But I think if Mary Harney doesn’t know much about about Twitter I think there’s no harm in her not interacting. I think if she did have a Twitter, she would get a lot of abuse for being Health Minister, which is not necessarily the best thing in the world…”
